New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill in Boylston, MA. Click here for directions.

We hope you'll join us at the next in-person NEDS meeting where you'll get to meet nationally known hybridizer and Stout Medal Winner Curt Hanson, owner of Crintonic Gardens in Gates Mills, Ohio.  Curt won the 2003 Stout Silver Medal for the daylily 'Primal Scream'. (click for photo by Claude Carpenter) and he has introduced over 900 daylily cultivars.  His beautiful and distinctive daylilies have been rigorously selected for consistency and vigor under typical zone 5 garden conditions like ours.

Curt's presentation about his breeding program starts at 10:30 and will be followed by an auction including some of his newer introductions (click for list of auction plants)Please note: you must be present at the NEDS meeting at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill to bid on the plants.

Bring your lunch to enjoy on the grounds of the lovely Botanic Garden.  After lunch, we'll make plans for our upcoming May Sale and Exhibition and Picnic in July, then Curt will share photos of his many trips he has taken to exotic places all over the world.  If you only come to one meeting a year, this is the one you should attend!  You won't be disappointed!

We will be live-streaming Curt's presentation in a Zoom meeting.  The invitation has been sent out to our members on our email list.  If you can't be there in person and have not received the invitation but would like to join us online, please email marleneharmon@gmail.com on Thursday or Friday.   We will be recording the presentation and will post it on this site after the meeting in case you miss it.

Nikki Schmith

The speaker at our March meeting was the very entertaining and dynamic speaker, Nikki Schmith.  Nikki talked about ways to attract new members and grow your daylily club.  She gave us great ideas for interesting meetings and suggestions on how to retain members.  Click here for her great list of "75 Ideas for Daylily Club Programs/Events/Fun Times".  NEDS Members: Please look through the list and at the April meeting, you can write down your favorites and drop them in a jar.  We'll use your ideas to help us plan future events for NEDS.

We had 25 people from NEDS viewing the presentation in person and 14 people from NEDS and other clubs viewing the presentation remotely on Zoom.  Thanks to all the members from NEDS, Long Island Daylily Society, Hudson Adirondack Daylily Society, Southern Maine Daylily Society and North Carolina who joined our meeting!

We are very grateful to Nikki for devoting your weekend to visit us in New England.  Your presentation may have only taken about 2 hours of your time, but we know you were away from your family for most of the weekend just so you could do this talk for us.  Also, thank you for your generous donation of daylilies for our auction and door prizes for our members.  We love and appreciate your enthusiasm for the American Daylily Society and hope it is contagious!  We all learned from your talk and hope we can bring in new members to our clubs!

Afternoon session with artist Susan Bousquet

In the afternoon, art instructor Susan Bousquet lead us step by step as we recreated a painting of a world famous daylily garden - Blue Ridge Daylilies in North Carolina.  It was a great way to spend the afternoon!
